Learn How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication for cPanel. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security measure that requires two forms of identification. After you enter your password, you must enter a security code. An application on your smartphone supplies this code. Without your smartphone, you cannot log in.

Tutorial – Set Up Two-Factor Authentication for cPanel

  1. Two-Factor Authentication

    Login to cPanel.
    Tutorial: login from the Client Area or the direct link.

    Find the Security section and click the Two-Factor Authentication link.

  2. Two-Factor Authentication

    Click the Set Up Two-Factor Authentication button.

  3. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication – App

    If you don’t have supported time-based one-time password (TOTP) app:
    – Install cPanel Recommended Apps on your phone – click the link next to the chosen App and follow instructions to install.

    2FA requires a smartphone with a supported time-based one-time password (TOTP) app.
    cPanel Recommended Apps:
    For Android™, iOS®, and Blackberry® — Google Authenticator™
    For Android and iOS — Duo Mobile
    For Windows® Phone — Authenticator


    Open the installed App on your Phone.

  4. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication – Step 1

    Click the Scan the QR code link or click Enter a setup key, if you don’t have a QR code reader installed on your Phone..

  5. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication – Step 2

    If you don’t have a QR code reader installed on your Phone, click on Enter a setup key.
    Type the provided Account and Key information (from the blue box in cPanel) into your app.

    IMPORTANT: Make a copy of the secret key (shown in the blue box) when initially enabling two-factor authentication on an account. Keep the key somewhere safe, So You can access your account if something happens to your Phone.

  6. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication – Step 3

    Scan QR code with your Phone by placing QR code inside red border and hold until the QR code has been processed.

  7. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication – Step 4

    Within your 2FA app, retrieve the six-digit security code.
    The 2FA app generates a new six-digit security code every 30 seconds.

  8. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication – Step 5

    Enter the six-digit security code in the Security Code text box.
    You must enter the security code within 30 seconds. After time expires, the app will generate a new six-digit code.
    Click the Configure Two-Factor Authentication.

  9. Wait for the success message.

Tutorial – Login to cPanel with Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Login to cPanel.

2. Open TOTP app on your Phone.

3. Enter the six-digit security code (from Your Phone) in the Security Code text box to log in to cPanel.
