Learn How to Change Domain Nameservers in Client Area. A Domain Name System (DNS) is the system that translates a domain name into an IP address. DNS forms the foundation for the Internet. DNS records are used to map each web service to the correct server. Each domain name has a collection of DNS records called a zone file. A Nameserver is a computer where DNS records are stored.

Nameservers play a big part in connecting a URL with a server’s IP address in a much more human-friendly way. Nameservers look like any other domain name. There are a minimum of two nameservers (though you can use more). Here’s an example of what they look like:

ns1.extilum.net
ns2.extilum.net

  1. Login to Extilum Client Area

    Click this link to login.
    Click the blue Domains button.

  2. My Domains

    Click the link under Domain Column for the domain you want to change the Nameservers.

  3. Managing Domain

    Click the Nameservers button in the Manage Panel on the right.

  4. Nameservers

    In the Nameservers section, you will see the current name servers of your domain.
    Use Default nameservers
    — Check this option if you have Web Hosting with Extilum.
    Use custom nameservers
    — Type the nameservers to point your domain to your web hosting provider.
    Before editing your nameservers, you need to know the new nameserver records to use.
    Contact your web host about this.

  5. Nameservers

    Click the Change Nameservers button.
    Please note that once you make the name server changes at the registrar, there will be 24-48 hours of DNS propagation time during which your website and email may not be available.
