Generate a Full Backup – cPanel

Learn How to Generate a Full Backup in cPanel. A full cPanel backup makes a copy of all of your files, email, databases, etc. The system stores backup files as tarballs that use the .tar.gz file extension. Once initiated, you must allow the backup time to perform. The server can send you an email to an address you specify once the backup is ready to download

  1. Backup

    Login to cPanel.
    Tutorial: login from the Client Area or the direct link.

    Find the Files section and click the Backup link.

  2. Full Backup

    Click the Download a Full Account Backup.

  3. Backup Destination

    Home Directory 
    — Select this setting to save the backup file on the server.
    Remote FTP Server 
    — Select this setting to use FTP to store the backup file on a remote server.
    Remote FTP Server (passive mode transfer)
     — Select this setting to use passive FTP to store the backup file on a remote server.
    Secure Copy (SCP) 
    — Select this setting to use secure copy protocol (SCP) to store the backup file on a remote server.

  4. Generate a Full Backup

    Email Address
    – Type your email address to receive a notification when the backup finishes.
    Do not send email notification of backup completion
    – Check this option If you do not wish to receive the notification.
    If you selected Remote FTP Server, Remote FTP Server (passive mode transfer), or Secure Copy (SCP) from the Backup Destination menu, enter the remote destination’s information in the available text boxes.
    Click the Generate Backup button.

  5. Full Backup in Progress…

    You will get this message. Backup takes time to finish.
    Click the Go Back button.

  6. Find Backups Available for Download
