File and Directory Restoration – cPanel

Learn How to use File and Directory Restoration – cPanel. The File and Directory Restoration interface allows you to restore items from local backup sources. You can enter a path or browse through files and directories to access backups. The system will restore deleted files and will overwrite existing files.

This interface does not allow you to restore your account’s .cpanel and mail directories. To restore these directories, you must perform a full account backup restoration.

Step-by-step tutorial – File and Directory Restoration – cPanel

  1. File and Directory Restoration

    Login to cPanel.
    Tutorial: login from the Client Area or the direct link.

    Find the Files section and click the File and Directory Restoration link.

  2. File and Directory Restoration Interface

    This interface contains two sections, Files and Directories, and Backups.

    Files and Directories
    Enter a path
    You have to enter the path of the file that you want to restore. And you have to know the exact file location.
    If you don’t know the exact file location skip to step 6.
    Click the Show Backups to list the backups for that file or directory. The backups will appear in the Backups section of the interface.

    Backups
    – Choose the backup that you wish to restore and click Restore.

  4. Restore confirmation


    The system will ask you to confirm the restoration. Click Restore to confirm.

  5. A success or failure message will appear.

  6. Browse files and directories

    – Browse files and directories
    If you don’t know the exact file path of the damaged or corrupted file then you can select the file by choosing the Browse files and directories option.

  7. Choose the file and Show available Backups

    Select the file/folder that you want to restore and click the Show Backups link next to that file/folder.

  8. Backups lists

    It will show the latest backups that are available for a particular folder or file.
    Select the date that you want to restore.
    Click the Restore next to the chosen date.

  9. Restore

    The system will ask you to confirm the restoration.
    Click Restore to confirm.

  10. A success or failure message will appear.
