How to use Directory Privacy in cPanel. When a user attempts to access the protected directory through a browser, the site will prompt them to enter a username and password. The name that you choose for the protected directory will also display.

Step-by-step tutorial – Directory Privacy in cPanel

  1. Directory Privacy

    Login to cPanel.
    Tutorial: login from the Client Area or the direct link.

    Find the Files section and click the Directory Privacy link.

  2. Edit button

    Click the Edit button next to the directory that you want to protect.

  3. Security Settings

    Password protect this directory
    – Check this box.
    Enter a name for the protected directory
    – Type a name for the protected directory.
    Click the Save button.

  4. Create User

    Create a user to grant access to the protected directory.
    Username
    – Type a username
    New Password
    – Type the user’s password or click the Password Generator button to auto-generate the password.
    Confirm Password
    – Retype the user’s password.
    Click the Save button.

  5. Wait for the success message and click the Go Back button.

  6. Test the Directory Privacy

    Go to the Password protected directory by typing the address in the browser.
